Community and Culture
At Our Savior Lutheran School, we cultivate a spirited environment through our House System, promoting unity, leadership, and healthy competition among our scholars. Each house comprises students from various grade levels, fostering mentorship and a strong sense of community.
House Engagements
Throughout the academic year, scholars earn points for their respective houses by participating in activities such as athletics, academic competitions, choir, band, attendance at sporting events, and other extracurricular endeavors. Additionally, houses engage in team-building exercises, social activities, and community service projects, enriching the OSL experience.
This structured competition culminates in the awarding of the House Cup to the house with the most accumulated points. The winning house's name is inscribed on the cup, which is prominently displayed until the following year, when a new champion is celebrated.
This dynamic system not only fosters a sense of belonging and personal growth but also strengthens the bonds within our OSL community, making each scholar's journey both memorable and meaningful.
Benefits of the House System
The OSL House System connects children with each other beyond their grade level and immediate social circle. For younger scholars, it provides a connection with older scholars, creating opportunities to find a mentor, and increasing their sense of belonging within the school community. The House System is an opportunity for younger scholars to be part of a team before they are old enough to participate in team sports at school. For older scholars, the House System provides opportunities to show leadership and encouragement to younger children.
The Four Houses
Our Savior Lutheran School has four houses: Aquilae, Oculus, Rostrum, and Talonis. These names are Latin terms for the features of an eagle, OSL's mascot. Scholars remain in their assigned house throughout their time at school, and family members are placed in the same house.
