Athletics at OSL - Part Three: Spirit Week!

For the past few weeks, our blog has been totally athletics focused! We learned about the benefits of organized sports and athletics for student athletes, and learned more about the extensive sports and athletics programs available at OSL. We also were personally introduced to all our amazing OSL coaches, who spend their time and passion coaching the different sports programs at OSL. The culmination of our three-part sports series is this week and focuses on all the fun and excitement of Spirit Week!

Spirit Week is an annual favorite for the students, staff, and faculty of OSL. Each year our varsity girls and boys basketball teams, and cheerleaders, compete at the state tournament. To celebrate this event, as well as encourage the athletes as they head into the competition, we have OSL Eagle Spirit Week, which is celebrated with special dress days and events.  This year’s spirit week included Favorite Character Day, where students dressed as their favorite character – historical, book, or cartoon, 1980’s Decade Day, and College Day, where students wore their favorite college T-shirts, jerseys, and sweatshirts. Students also celebrated Valentine’s Day by dressing in red, pink, and white apparel, and finished the week with House Color Day, where each house wore its unique color to support their house – House Aquilae wore gray, House Oculus wore black, House Talonis wore white, and House Rostrum wore Green.

The biggest highlight of OSL Eagle Spirit Week was the Pep Rally that took place on Thursday afternoon. Pep Rallies are always an exciting event at OSL. The Varsity and JV Cheerleaders perform dances and cheer, and lead the crowd in supporting the teams heading off to the state tournament. The basketball athletes that are heading to the state tournament are recognized for their hard work and dedication.

Sports and athletics are a huge part of the culture here at OSL. We are proud of all of our student athletes, and thankful for all of our hardworking and dedicated coaches! We are praying for a safe and successful tournament this weekend for all the athletes participating in the state tournament. Go Eagles!!
