Grade 7 - What to Expect

What to expect in Grade 7...

Chapel is on Monday except for special holidays and weeks where there is no school on Monday.

We will have PE 3 days per week.  Latin classes will be daily.  We will visit the library once a week.  Students will have a choice between advance band, art, and choir.     

Our study of Religion will include:  a look at church history from the early Christian church through the medieval age and the Reformation, and how the gospel has been spread into the entire world.  During the second semester we will study Old Testament history from creation to the fall of Judah.

In English we will:

In Math we will: use Saxon Math 8/7 or Saxon Pre-Algebra.  Students will be tested at the end of their 6th grade year for math placement in Grade 7.  New students will be tested on Orientation Day.

Saxon Math 8/7:

  • Fractions to include ordering, equivalents, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
  • Decimals to include ordering, repeating/terminating decimals, rounding decimals, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
  • Find mean, median, and mode
  • Creating graphs
  • Using unit multipliers
  • Coordinate planes
  • Area of triangle/rectangle/circle
  • Simple probability
  • Two-step word problems
  • Box and whisker plots
  • Ratio - ratio boxes and implied ratio

Saxon Pre-Algebra:

  • Simple math

Our study of history will include:  timeline events 33-65, which is St. Augustine through the patenting of the steam engine by James Watt. Particular points of interest will be the Fall of the Western Roman Empire, the travels of Marco Polo, European history, Christopher Columbus and other early explorers. The Reformation and early colonial settlement.

 

In Science we will:  focus on Biology to include three units of dissection.  Science is centered on a hands-on approach to learning.  The curriculum's main objective is content memorization with a minor objective of developing higher-level thinking skills. Math, history, and Latin have been integrated into the science curriculum as well.

 

For memory we will memorize:

  • The six chief parts of the Catechism and selected Bible verses related to our Catechetical memory; Learn By Heart.

Some exciting field trips may include:

  • Texas history trip - This will be a three day/two night trip to visit the Alamo, Buckhorn Museum, Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas state capitol, Texas state cemetery, Natural Bridge caverns, and Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.
